3 Bodies Recovered from Lake Coeur d’Alene after Saturday Night Crash

Northern Idaho authorities have confirmed that the bodies of the 3 persons missing following the Saturday night boat collision have been recovered.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement late Wednesday that a dive team pulled the bodies from Lake Coeur d’Alene shortly after the crash.

Officials identified the dead as 34-year-old Justin M. Luhr of Medical Lake, Spokane County, 21-year-old Justin T. Honken of Post Falls, Idaho, and 21-year-old Caitlin A. Breeze of Spokane.

Authorities have released minimal information regarding the details of the crash, though scanner traffic from the night of the incident provides some insight.

Around 9:20 p.m. Saturday, a homeowner on the east side of Lake Coeur D’Alene made the first call to the Sheriff’s Office to report what they had witnessed. A Marine deputy reported to the scene within 10 minutes.

A MasterCraft boat with 5 passengers on board had struck a Formula boat with 3 passengers on board. Those 5 passengers would later be treated and released at a hospital, while the 3 crash victims disappeared.

According to the dispatcher, witnesses aboard the MasterCraft claimed that the boat they struck was completely blacked out and stationary.

The case remains under investigation.
